Sunday, December 13th, 2009

Business is about people. Creating the right relationships with customers, suppliers and, most importantly, employees. But with those employees comes legislation… Today’s experts talk about An employer’s responsibilities and your employees’ rights.

Julie’s guests this week:

  • Rebecca Thornley-Gibson is partner and divisional director of ASB Law. She has spent her professional life with ASB, qualifying in 1992 and becoming a partner in 1999. Rebecca is recommended by Legal 500 and is a recognised industry commentator. She contributes to a variety of business publications and regularly speaks at industry events organised by CIPD, ACCA and the HR Leaders’ Forum.
  • Matt Penfold has worked for ACAS for seven years, four of which were in central London, conciliating disputes between employers and trade unions. Matt is now the senior adviser and collective conciliator for South Kent, East Sussex and Brighton & Hove. He advises employers on employment relations issues, delivers training events in most areas related to employment, and conciliates collective disputes wherever required.

In life, we’re often inspired by leaders and kept on track by managers… but if you’re running a business, then you’ll need to be a bit of both. This week’s experts guests ask, Is there a difference between a leader and a manager?

Joining Julie this week are:

  • Joseph Clayton is the MD of Clayton Vyner Ltd. He has worked in America, all across Europe and the UK, and has 17 years’ experience in corporate development strategies. His company focuses on leadership and management development, employee engagement and communication.
  • Al Tredinnick is currently running his own sales and coaching business Al Tredinnick Consulting which has been up and running for six months and is thriving. Prior to this, Al was sales manager at Nido Marketing, and before that was a teacher of sales and leadership and a bank manager.
