As an employer of people you have a number of responsibilities, both legal and moral. Your employees also have many rights, too… by law. This week’s guests discuss How to be a good employer.

Joining Julie in the studio this week are:

  • Fiona Martin is a partner of Martin Searle Solicitors and has over ten years’ experience in law. She is also part of a steering group, Leaders, a group set up to promote and encourage ethical and diverse recruitment practices.
  • Julia Chanteray is a regular guest on Business as Usual. She is the founder and owner of The Joy of Business and helps small businesses develop, using her years of experience running successful, profitable businesses. Julia was the ‘expert in residence’ on Channel 4’s Risking It All programme.
  • Jeremy Spiller is also a regular guest on the show. Jeremy is managing director of award-winning web development and SEO company, White Hat Media. He is a regular expert speaker at events across the UK.

Business as Usual: Taking on your first employee (Series 2 – Show 1)

It’s a very big step from being a sole trader, or a small company formed by a group of friends, to becoming an employer. This week’s guests talk about Taking on your first employee.

In the studio this week are:

  • Fiona Martin is a partner of Martin Searle Solicitors and has over ten years’ experience in law. She is also part of a steering group, Leaders, a group set up to promote and encourage ethical and diverse recruitment practices.
  • Darren Fell sold his company Pure360 for a substantial amount and has gone on to set up freelancers.co.uk, a site dedicated to giving support and advice to freelancers. More recently Darren launched Crunch, an online accounting package for freelancers and small businesses.
  • Jeremy Spiller is a regular guest on the show. Jeremy is managing director of award-winning web development and SEO company, White Hat Media.
